Cant boot XP with vista !

hello guyz
guyz i try to find out my solution on this site n others but i cant found any similar problem any 1 having
thats y i opened a new thread .
my laptop came with pre-installed VISTA so i dont want to remove VISTA.
I want XP also. (dual boot)
so i installed XP on D: drive later on i followed these steps :
How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) -- the step-by-step guide with screenshots

1.vista is in C drive
2. installed XP in D drive
3. repaired vista.
4. installed easyBCD
5. added entry (the entry i added, i did it both way first i selected the drive D:, type of windows n then i added it, save it, restart laptop. nothing happened so second time first i remove the existing win xp from the list then, i just selected the type n add it to the list save it restart nothing happened)
6. restarted directly goes to vista doesn't ask an option !
stuck on vista !
i cant boot XP any 1 plz help me ...

the display mode is :

Hi Zeeshan, welcome to NST.
Change the drive option for XP from U to "boot", and if XP won't boot then, the symptoms and the solutions should be described in the wiki here.

i removed the entry again n change it to boot but when i c the display mode is still same

so now wht shld i do try the wiki link u gave me
n i go thought wiki n its having so many external link that if u cant do thid do that if u cant do thi d do this i mean wht shld i do ?
n abt wht there 3 file where r they located ? :$
n which step shld i follow?
i searched my C & D driver for these 3 files
i cant found these files any where so where shld i copy these file ?

Go into folder options, and change the "show hidden files" "hide protected operating system files" and "hide extensions for known file types" so that you can see and find everything.
Then copy the 3 files from the XP root into the Vista root (if Vista is your "system active" partition)

wht do u mean by vista root in windows folder or in c drive ?

Addendum:

and do i need to change any thing in side boot.ini file

and wht is the system active now my system active is vista but wht if i do XP ?

The root of drive C is, for example C:\boot.ini (i.e. not inside a folder)
You'll need to edit boot.ini to point at your XP partition.
check here for all the information you'll need.
The "system active" partition is where all the boot files for both systems must be, and even when you boot XP, it will still be Vista marked system active (because the boot files haven't moved), but XP will be marked "boot" (to show that's what you're actually running)

ok now i when i view the system files i can c the 3 files
so now i shld edit the boot.ini file to wht ?
no need to change from easyBCD ?

hey i edit the boot.ini file but i cant still c any booting options?

Please describe in more detail, how the XP boot is failing. What message(s) are you getting, or what symptoms ?
Post a screenshot of your admin tools/computer management/disk management screen so we can see what your HDD layout is, to advise you on boot.ini.

wht else information u need
my dual boot is not woking at all n no errors.

like u said b4 that i need to edit boot.ini file so shld i make any changes in easyBCD?
shld i remove the settings or just leave it/?

OK check that you have C:\boot.ini C:\NTLDR and c:\ntdetect.com, and point boot.ini to partition(2), then run EasyBCD,
go into add/remove entries
select the line for the XP system in the top box (manage existing entries) and click "delete" and "save"
go down to the add an entry box and click on the Windows tab
select windows NT/XP in the dropdown box
(it should default to C or "boot" and be greyed out in the "drive" box)
change the name to XP or whatever you want it to be called on your boot menu
Click add entry, and "save"

According to CG in other threads, U: isn't correct. EasyBCD detects the correct drive automatically and you shouldn't select XP's partition when adding the entry.

Alternitvely, you can go into an elevated command prompt and use bcdedit <BCDID> /set drive C:/D: (Most likely it'll be C: ) on the existing entry to point the entry to the correct partition.

i did this test nothing happened "go down to the add an entry box and click on the Windows tab

did it still same i cant dual boot.

It's difficult to help when you just say "I can't dual boot".
Can you please describe exactly what does happen when you try to boot.
Also please paste the output from EasyBCD "view settings" in ""detailed (debug) " mode and screenshots of the contents of your C: and D: disks from windows explorer

its booting as a normal laptop like there is no other OS in.

You still have the drive for XP showing "U" in the EasyBCD display - this means it's unknown. Change it to "c" or "boot" and make sure you hit "save" to save the change you just made.
What have you done with the XP root files ?
You should have copied the 3 XP boot files to C:, not moved them. There should also be files like autoexec.bat and config.sys in the root of D:\ but they're all in the C:\ root
Did your XP installation complete successfully ? It doesn't appear to be all there, or did you move everything from D:\ to C:\ ?
