Hello all,
Im not sure that this is a EasyBCD problem or not hope to get some feedback. I am presently booting 3 iterations of Vista Home Premium , and Linux Helena8 . Here is the bug . When i switch from either linux to vista or vista to linux the clock time gets reset to the wrong time. easy enough to re-set but a pain in the neck to do every time . Does anyone else have a similer experience or any suggestions on what the cause might be? Also i have tried to post this for the third time and each time i get the message is too short by 5 characters? then the post resets and i have to re-do all over whats up with this? Regards Fred

I could not get online for several days. Tried everything I could think of.
I recently downloaded SP3. I'm not sure if it coincided exactly with the
start of my problem or not, but I did an uninstall of SP3 :-(
It gave me a warning that a few things _might_ not work properly
after the uninstall, well they don't work.
The computer seems to load Windows and then the the screen is
Black. The mouse and keyboard don't respond. I think those were
two of the 5 or 6 items that I was warned might not work properly.
At reboot I can get into the restore section but I don't want to lose
my data. I have three options; 1: D:\MiniNT
                                               2: D:\I386
                                               3: C:\windows
I've searched elsewhere and it always says backup your data before the
recovery (even if it is not the destructive recovery). I would put my data
on a thumb drive if I knew how.
Ok, there's my problem any suggestions?
I'll attempt to get into safe mode after I log off and see if that does anything.
                              Thanks, MikeK

*Addendum:*

I booted in safe mode and it did the same thing, loaded windows and
went to black. The keyboard does seems to be functional, it will
recognize up, down, L, R, F1, F8, F10, etc. The hard drive seems
to just shut down after Windows loads (no blinking light).
                                                       MikeK

HI,
My family vista computer has recently failed to log on. First off it shows a meassage with two options, one says:
"Launch Startup Repair (recommended)"
and the other says:
"start windows normally"
Starting windows normally option does not work and the screen comes back to these options afterwards, so the only working option is the "recommended" one. Once this option is selected a window appears with "System Recovery Options" but there is NO operating system displayed AT ALL in the "load drivers" section/window. I have tried the "rsturi.exe" command and several other command types also. So what do i have to do to get the Windows Vista Computer Operating Sytem to work??!
Help please . . . ANYONE!

I have a problem with setting properly dual boot. I have two hard disks: 1. Windows 7 (installed alone) 2. Linux (installed alone, lilo installed in mbr) I want to use windows 7 to choose between linux and win. I add linux option in easyBCD, and choose lilo, device drive 1 partiton 2 linux (this is my bootable partition on second disk) and save. After reboot when I choose linux I only see black screen and nothing happens. How should I set this settings? I know there is a way to intall lilo on a partition and then blablabla, but I want to set it up in this particular way.

Need help with my laptop

I have been on a search for help for a few weeks. I stumbled across you sight and saw a glimmer of light! I have read threads for about an hour, in hopes to find something that might answer my question, but nothing that really hits it. So here goes my issue!

I have a Gateway T-series laptop, model W350A using OS Vista Home Premium 64-bit that is giving me fits. I didn't get any disks with this computer, and the Geek Squad coverage I had before expired.
I am having issues with all my software. Firefox not responding, jar file errors, windows errors when I shut down, Google Chrome has resolving host issues. No mater what program I download or install, something goes wacky with it. I do believe that its my laptop because I have a brand new Compaq that handles the same programs without issues.
So i wanted to restore this Gateway to factory settings. I tried to get my restore to work, but it tells me that there is not a good restore point. I can't figure out how to get this done. I have a partition that has everything stored, but I don't know how to access that. It says PC Angel, and there is an info folder that is locked.
When I boot my computer I have to options F10 and F2. When i select F10 for the boot menu, I get 3 options:
1. IDE CD: Optiarc DVD RW AD-756-3A(P
2. IDE 4: WDC WD2500BEVS-22USTO-(S)
3. PCI BEV: REALTEK BOOT AGENT
I don't know what any of this is, but I tried option 3 thinking I could boot from maybe my partition. It goes thru a few things and then tells me windows didn't shut down properly, restart windows and it counts down to load.
So I go with F2 for BIOS Settings. This gives me a few screens, nothing that I can access a system restore.
I have tried the F10 + Alt, and it does nothing. Just keeps loading windows. I can get on the internet, and do a few things here and there. Nothing with great speed and without something crashing. So if you can direct me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I did download and burn the 64-bit disk that was recommended. I didn't use it because I didn't think that I had boot issues. Thanks for any help and ideas!

Hi everybody,
my computer crashed a couple of days ago, due to power failure during a storm.
It doesn't boot but by downloading the recovery CD from here (thanks) I could boot and get to DOS.
Now the plot thickens. It's an HP desktop with a Recovery partition. When I tried the F11 thing it attempted to boot and the next time I got to the command prompt the drive letters were swapped. C: is now D: and viceversa...
Anyway, there is something wrong with the drive but I managed to connect a WD external USB drive and copy all my files, so my data is secured.

I can read the drive contents just fine with a DIR or COPY command. But when I tried the Bootsect command it worked perfectly on the Recovery partition but hangs on the main partition (the one containing Vista. Can anyone tell me if it's supposed to take long or there is something wrong here.

Thanks a lot

Awesome app, worked the first time, works flawlessly every time I boot the computer *but*... I started out with a 230GB (C) hard drive with Vista on it, used the Windows app to shrink C:\ drive, formatted a D:\ partition on approximately 110GB, put XP, Office 2003 on it, and now in disk management it tells me I only have like 350MB left on D:\. Whats up with that??

I KNOW it's the power settings. These laptops have power issues. I reset the settings this week to keep it on longer. Now, it won't boot. I have tried restore and it won't complete. The first time in restore it said there could be a hard drive issue. I just put a new SATA in, I doubt that is what it is. I know it is the damn settings, and I can't get it to restore. Anyone know a way to reset w/o boot? Thanks!

I have a Thinkpad W700 with 2 hard drives. I had Windows XP on drive1 and installed Windows7 on drive 0. It gave me a dual boot configuration with the following problem: I can NOT boot Windows7 unless it's in drive1 along with winXP in drive0. Any other configuration yields : "A disk read error occured. Press cntl-alt-del to restart". I really don't even want a dual boot configuration since I can boot either drive stand alone by hitting F12 and changing the boot order. It seems that the Win7 MBR must look to the WinXP mbr for its boot information and WinXP must preceed it in drive0.
Is there any sane way to KEEP my Win7 installation and just alter the MBR to boot independantly? I've tried a lot of conventional solutions (bootrec.exe /fixboot, recovery command prompt commands from the Win7 CD, Easybcd etc.) and nothing changes the status. It SHOULD be easy to just rewrite the MBR, etc. to just do a conventional boot, but it sure isn't as far as I can see. Any expert detailled help would be much appreciated.

Multiple Boot loaders GRUB AND Windows Loader

I tried to use Easy BCD to solve a problem.

My problem was that I installed UBUNTU 9.10 on the same drive that 9.04 was on previously. (The 9.04 installation was not working when the option to load it was taken from the Windows 7 loader page.)

Now I get a GRUB loader which, when I take the option for Windows 7 takes me to the aforesaid windows loader ( the Ubunu option still does not work). The OS are installed in separate SATA drives. Obviously i would prefer just one boot manager to load at startup.

I could not install EasyBCD v 1.72 so I have now tried BETA V2

It installs but gives me a message that the boot configuration store could not be opened, the system could not find the file specified. It goes on to give me the option of manually loading a BCD registry to manage. See attached snip.

Is EasyBCD the correct tool to use to correct my problem? If so how can i get it to work?
